How are you today?
Hi, I’m fine. I really hope you’re doing well too!
For those who may not yet be acquainted with your work, could you elaborate on the essence of your sound and elucidate upon the prominent influencers that have shaped your artistic journey thus far?
« My musical journey started in a record store when I was 15 years old. A friend of mine introduced me to Bob Dylan, and when I heard him sing, I was completely blown away. I had never heard anything like it. I continued to listen to his music and discovered other artists in his genre, such as The Band, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Gram Parsons to name a few. However, it took me another 15 years before I had the confidence to start composing my own music. Up until today, I have released nine albums, and I’m currently in the final stages of completing my tenth. »
In what ways has your geographical surroundings served as a muse for your creative endeavors? Have you observed any discernible impact of your locale on the evolution of your musical expression?
« I don’t think my surroundings have affected my songwriting, as it all happens in my own mind and you can choose what you want to see. I’ve been touring and traveling a lot, and even if it’s a short trip, I always bring my guitar. I draw inspiration from life itself and how mysterious it can be just being alive. Sometimes I revisit my old songbook and realize that my songs can tell me about where I was in that moment; it works as a diary. »
Your recent single release has garnered attention. Could you provide insight into the genesis of this record and expound upon the narrative that informs its creation?
« My latest release differs a bit from my former releases as I handled the production myself. It was challenging, with numerous possibilities, which can be both a blessing and a curse. The songs came to life quite fast, and the theme was mostly about life’s ups and downs and how to deal with setbacks. The single « If The Blues Were Gone » addresses that specific subject. The album is titled « A Brand New Leaf, » reflecting the idea that when you’ve been dealing with something, it’s time to move on.”
How does your latest single distinguish itself within the context of your discography? Furthermore, could you delve into the significance it holds for you personally?
« When finalizing an album, there are always a few songs that stand out a bit. However, if you ask around, you’ll always get different opinions. For me, it has always been important to follow my own gut and write about my experiences. This song holds particular importance to me because it reflects my personal emotions ”
What aspirations do you harbor regarding the impression you wish your latest project to leave upon its audience?
” When I compose a song, I never think about the outcome. It’s impossible to control how people will interpret my music, but if someone out there can resonate with these experiences and emotions, I’d be more than happy. »
Can we anticipate the emergence of a new EP or, perhaps, an album from your artistic repertoire in the foreseeable future?
” Yes, I’m currently in the studio recording my next album. Stay tuned and keep your ears open ”
Looking ahead, what milestones do you envision accomplishing within the forthcoming five years, both artistically and personally?
Artistically, my milestone appears to be gratitude. It’s the profound appreciation for the opportunity to create music and perform live shows, a journey that fuels my artistic spirit and drives me forward. Personally, I’m committed to honing my beliefs and values, allowing them to guide me through life’s twists and turns.
